KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Knoxville police said a man has been taken to a hospital after an officer-involved shooting in the parking lot of a shopping mall.
Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk told The Knoxville News Sentinel the incident at West Town Mall was reported shortly before 5:30 p.m. EDT Thursday by someone referring to a "domestic situation" between a male and female in the mall parking lot. DeBusk said police arrived and confronted the male, then shot at least once.
DeBusk said there was a struggle between the officer and the suspect but that it wasn't yet clear whether the suspect was armed.
The suspect was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center. DeBusk said the officer wasn't injured but was taken to the hospital as a matter of procedure.
