MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- Emergency crews responded to an apartment fire at the Poplar Village Apartments late Monday.

Officials said fire fighters were called to the apartment complex on Poplar Avenue around 5:30 p.m. after receiving calls from residents. When crews arrived on the scene they found heavy black smoke coming from the roof of building L.

Crews were able to get the fire under control, but remained on the scene for several hours monitoring for hot spots and rekindles. Officials said two units within building L received extensive fire damage and four units received smoke damage only.

One resident was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The American Red Cross was called in to help those residents displaced by the fire.

The assistant Fire Marshal said the fire appeared to be accidental, but remained under investigation.
