Police: Woman Stabbed Walmart Employee Multiple Times

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Walmart employee was hospitalized after a shoplifter turned violent, according to police.

A police affidavit said employees witnessed 27-year-old Denise Colon stashing items under her clothes and then tried to walk out of the store located on Nolensville Pike, at Harding Place, on Saturday afternoon.

When they confronted her, the affidavit said she pulled out what was believed to be a screw driver and stabbed one the employees several times in the upper body.

The employee was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries.

An affidavit also said Colon tried to leave the scene in her vehicle, but not before backing into another vehicle. When the other driver got out of her car to talk with Colon, the affidavit said Colon drove forward and hit the driver with her vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The driver was not hurt.

Colon was later arrested and charged with theft, aggravated assault, three counts attempted aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident.

She was held at the Davidson County jail on a combined $92,500 bond.

The entire incident was caught on surveillance, and the victims positively identified Colon from a lineup.

Colon was arrested in October 2011 on similar charges.

Surveillance video showed a uniformed loss prevention agent at the Target on Charlotte Pike attempted to stop Colon as she pushed her shopping cart toward the exit without paying for the merchandise on September 16, 2011.

Colon allegedly struck the agent before fleeing the store. She left behind a small child who was carried off by an unidentified female accomplice.

Colon was also identified as the person who took merchandise, including electronics and clothing, from the same Target location on September 3 and again on September 14, 2011.

She was charged with theft, attempted theft and assault.

Colon was never convicted of past charges, but an agreement was worked out where she was placed on probation and was required to take a shoplifting class.
