NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police have identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in south Nashville on Thursday night.

Police said 25-year-old Calvin Anthony Thomas, of Smyrna, was crossing Old Hickory Boulevard, at Woodlands Avenue, around 7:30 p.m. when he was struck by a white Chevrolet pickup truck.

The crash happened on a dangerous stretch of road for pedestrians on Old Hickory Boulevard near Christ Church.

"Although there are street lights, there are still plenty of pockets of dark area. It's on a hill; it's on the crest of a hill; it's in a curve, so it's a very dangerous place to cross the street, and there are no intersections within a reasonable amount of distance," said Mark Denton with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

The truck, which sustained extensive front end damage and the loss of its front grill, fled the scene. Police have asked citizens to be on the lookout for a white pickup truck with front end damage and missing part of its grill.

Traffic on Old Hickory Boulevard was affected as lanes headed toward Brentwood remained closed for much of the evening.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the truck is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
