CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A huge sycamore tree in Cumberland County has been recognized as the second-largest of its species in Tennessee.

The Crossville Chronicle reported the 94-foot-tall tree on the Wildwood Stables property in Fairfield Glade has been named the Legendary Sycamore and added to the Historic Tree Registry.

To be so recognized, by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council, a tree must have been a direct witness to a significant historic event or cultural movement.

The tree was plucked up as sapling from along Daddy's Creek in 1864, according to legend, and planted where it grows today on a knoll near river bottom land.
