NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Events all across Middle Tennessee were held this weekend to honor the nation's veterans. One of the biggest was the Veterans Day Parade here in Nashville.

The Titans game was not enough to keep big crowds from going to the Veterans Day Parade in downtown Nashville.

A military band helped lead the parade down Broadway. Thousands of veterans took part in Sunday's event. Some were on horseback; others were on motorcycles or in cars.  Along the streets, people were lined up with their American flags and signs of support for the military.

It's a wonderful parade, and thank you very much to all our veterans out there," said military mother Jenny Kriner. "We appreciate that."

"I'm a veteran, and this is one of the things I enjoy doing with my grandchildren, come down here, have time with the people and enjoy the patriotic gestures and all that," said Alan Jinnette.

Jinnette said he served in Vietnam, and there were no parades for him when he returned home from service.  He says events like this help the nation heal.

Several downtown streets and intersections were blocked from 10:00  in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon. Then at 5:00, a special wreath was placed at Tennessee's World War II memorial at Bicentennial Mall.
