SMYRNA, Tenn. – A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and injuring her mother has pleaded guilty to the crime.

Charles Godspower pleaded guilty to second degree murder and attempted second degree murder on Tuesday. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for both counts, to be served concurrently.

Police said Godspower confessed to shooting and killing 22-year-old Briana Brown in September 2011 at a home on Sky Valley Trail in Smyrna. He then turned the gun on her mother, Diana Glover. Glover was critically injured, and rushed to Vanderbilt.

Neighbors and friends said Brown and Godspower had a rocky relationship.

Police said Brown had filed an assault report with Smyrna Police against Godspower on June 21. She was also directed to the Domestic Violence Program of Rutherford County where she obtained an Order of Protection against Godspower.

The couple had a young child together.
