NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police have arrested the driver wanted for a fatal hit-and-run crash in South Nashville last week.
Police arrested 49-year-old Charles Towns Tuesday afternoon and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident involving death. Detectives said he refused to answer any questions.
Police said he was driving a pickup truck that struck 25-year-old Calvin Anthony Thomas, of Smyrna, while he was crossing Old Hickory Boulevard, at Woodlands Avenue, around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The vehicle sustained extensive front end damage and fled the scene westbound on Old Hickory Boulevard.
Police received information Friday that the pickup truck was in the parking lot of Iroquois Apartments at 111 Old Hickory Boulevard in West Nashville. Officers found a 1999 white Chevrolet Silverado that had the front end covered by a blue tarp to conceal the damage. The truck was registered to Towns.
Police said Towns had a 2011 conviction for DUI.
He was jailed in lieu of $7,500 bond.
