Gallatin Infant Found Safe; Amber Alert Canceled

Posted: Updated:

GALLATIN, Tenn. - A 2-month-old boy from Gallatin was safely recovered Wednesday morning, just hours after an Amber Alert was issued by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The TBI said 38-year-old Eric Owens, who knew he was wanted, turned Eric Goolsby over to a TBI agent and other U.S. Marshals Task Force officers, who returned the infant to the Sumner County Sheriff's Office.

Goolsby's mother, 24-year-old Chasity Goolsby, of Hendersonville, was arrested Wednesday night after her father called police to say she wanted to turn herself in. Gallatin Police went to the home on Long Hollow Pike around 7:30 p.m., and took her into custody.

Owens and Goolsby have been charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and custodial interference.

Gallatin Police said she lost custody of Eric because she has a drug addiction problem. She has outstanding warrants for prostitution, theft of property and possession of a controlled substance in Davidson County.

Police said the infant's grandmother was granted temporary custody of the infant on November 9.

On Tuesday night, authorities said Chasity Goolsby came to the home where Eric Goolsby was living with his grandmother and called Owens, who believes he is the father of the child. The grandmother was not at home at the time, but the child was being cared for by a family member.

Family members told police Owens and another man came to the home of the baby's grandmother on South Water Avenue Tuesday night and abducted him.

The grandmother called police around 9 p.m. when she returned and found the infant was not at the home.

Police added that paternity has not been proven on Owens.
