LEBANON, Ky. (AP) - The funeral for a central Kentucky sheriff's deputy will be conducted at Marion County High School.
Police said Anthony Rakes had stepped out of his cruiser to check on a car stopped in the middle of U.S. 68 when he was shot and mortally wounded Wednesday morning. Rakes died during surgery.
Later Wednesday, KSP troopers and Campbellsville Police arrested 49-year-old Dewayne Shipp, of McDaniel, charging him with murder.
The 31-year-old Rakes had been with the Marion County Sheriff's Office for six years and served on the Lebanon Police Department prior to becoming a deputy
WLEX-TV in Lexington reported visitation for Rakes will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the Bosley Funeral Home in Lebanon. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the high school.
