NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Metro Police undercover officers were recently in the right place at the right time to catch a pigeon drop scam taking place.

Officers were doing surveillance in the Walmart parking lot on North Gallatin Pike when they suspected something was going on. Police said Darnykka Daniel approached a stranger and told her she and a friend found a box with $100,000 in it. Daniel told the stranger that she'd split the money, if the person could pay some fees for them.

The victim went home and came back with over $3,600 cash and jewelry valued at more than $15,000. That's when Metro police officers intervened. When officers approached Daniel they said she grabbed the goods and ran. Officers caught up with her and she was taken into custody and charged with felony theft.

Police said Daniel has a criminal history including and arrest and convictions for drug possession, assault and vandalism.
