FRANKLIN COUNTY, Tenn.- The man accused of killing a 24-year-old nursing student pleaded not guilty in court Friday.

Authorities said 37-year-old Donnie Frank Jones, Jr. pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges in Franklin County. Jones was accused of killing Megan Sharpton in July. Her partially burned body was found along the side of a road near Tims Ford Lake. Investigators said she was beaten to death.

Jones, who was previously considered a person of interest, was charged with first-degree murder, felony murder, two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping and two counts of aggravated rape earlier this month.
