FRANKLIN, Tenn. - As residents get ready to cook their Thanksgiving turkey dinners, fire fighters are reminding everyone to take extra care when using fryers.
Officials said cooking fires are three times more likely to occur on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. The Franklin Fire Department suggests that anyone using a turkey fryer never use the device on a wooden deck. The fryer should be operated outside away from the house and anything that can burn.
According to the National Fire Protection Association deep fryer fires cause an average of five deaths, 60 injuries, and more than $15 million in property damage each year.
