NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A woman was charged with DUI and assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly striking a driver in a hit-and-run crash.
An affidavit said 25-year-old Marchelle Hardy rear-ended a car with a driver and his son on the I-65 exit onto Rosa Parks Boulevard on Friday night. The driver, Travis Boyle, told police Hardy started yelling when he exited the vehicle. Boyle said Hardy returned to her car when he called police and said she "didn't have time for this."
Boyle told police that Hardy rammed his car again, backed up, struck him with the vehicle, and forced him on the hood of her car before driving away
"I'm
standing there and she takes off and hits my car again and flips me over my car
and almost runs over my son," said Boyle.
Police were able to get a tag number on the car, and traced Hardy to a nearby apartment complex. Officers found her staggering in the parking lot. The affidavit said Hardy told police she had been drinking at a party, and had been involved in an "incident" where she believed she'd hit a wall.
She failed sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
The affidavit said neighbors nearby who witnessed Hardy's arrest were yelling "That's what happens when you drive drunk" as officers took Hardy away.
Christa
Wilson was a passenger in the car with Hardy. She said that after the
collision Boyle was very abusive and scared Hardy who then tried to leave the
scene. Wilson said Hardy did not try to hit and injure Boyle.
Wilson said Boyle jumped in front of the car.
Hardy told police she had two
beers earlier in the evening. Police reported that she was so unstable on her
feet that they stopped the balancing portion of the field sobriety test fearing
for her safety.
Hardy was charged with DUI and
aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly trying to run down Boyle.
