Woman Critical After Car Fire In Driveway

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A Rutherford County woman was in critical condition at a Nashville hospital after she was severely burned in a vehicle parked at her home.

Investigators told the Daily News-Journal they do not yet know what 68-year-old Thelmarine "May" Frazier was doing in the family Lexus, nor what sparked the fire.

Family members said Frazier usually drove a Volvo that was still sitting outside her home in the Rockvale community on Monday morning after the fire. Foul play was not immediately suspected.

An off-duty volunteer firefighter first noticed smoke coming from Frazier's home around 8 a.m. He called 911 before traveling to the scene.

A sheriff's deputy saw Frazier crawling away from the car and still on fire. She was transported by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
