NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A local company has reached out to help a La Vergne family whose puppy who was shot and killed for wandering into her neighbor's yard.

Last week, Airel Duffer's 3-month-old, 3 lb., 4 oz. "Min Pin" - or Miniature Pinscher - "Jada" was shot twice by her neighbor when the puppy wandered over into his yard. Jada later died.

Ron Smith, President and CEO of Electric Service Credit Union, said he saw the story about Jada and it moved him.

"We wanted to make it right what happened to Airel because it was very wrong what happened to her and her family," said Ron Smith.

On Monday, ESCU officials gave Duffer a new "Min Pin" to help her and her family cope.

"It's just amazing and thank God for people like Ron who do care and just so grateful that they were nice enough to let this happen and she will be a great early Christmas gift for my kids," Airel said.

Police issued Duffer's neighbor a citation for intentionally killing an animal, which is a misdemeanor.
