LAVERGNE, Tenn.- Two LaVergne High School students were given a special award for helping get a young child back to its family.

Eighteen-year-old Humberto Orneles and his 14-year-old sister Cynthia received the Chief's Citizen Service Award on Tuesday. The teens found a 4-year-old little boy wandering the streets alone back in October.

The preschooler had slipped out of a carpool van Thursday afternoon near Hectare Lane after spotting a bicycle he wanted to play with. The driver of the van didn't notice the child had gotten out and van drove away without him.

A short time later, while on their way to school, 18-year-old Humberto and 14-year-old Cynthia noticed the little boy walking alone. They approached the child and then took him to the nearest Fire Station on Bill Stewart Boulevard, where officials took over.

After a day long search the child was happily reunited with his parents. Police said the teens' quick thinking resulted in keeping the child safe
