CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police in Clarksville said that a 15-year-old boy was killed after being shot in the head by his own brother.

Clarksville Police said a man called to report his brother had been gunned down around 5 a.m. in the 1500 block of Vista Lane. The teen, who had been shot once, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was later died.

His identity was not released.

Early in the investigation the victim's brother, Brian Smith, told police that he was walking up the street, heard a gunshot, and saw two black males running away.  Police later discovered this information to be "false and misleading."

Further investigation reveled that Smith was inside the home with his brother handling a gun when the firearm discharged. The 15-year-old was struck in the head. Smith admitted to police that he shot his brother and then told someone to get rid of the gun.

Smith was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, reckless endangerment, and tampering with evidence. He was held at the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
