Board Of Regents Approves New TSU President

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  - The Tennessee Board of Regents has chosen to approve alumna Glenda Baskin Glover as the next president of Tennessee State University in Nashville.

The Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor John Morgan announced last week that he was recommending Glover out of four finalists.

Glover is currently the dean of the College of Business at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi.

"She was a very effective leader. Was strong at building consensus and then moving forward once that consensus was developed," Morgan said of Glover's track record at Jackson State University. "So we would expect that she would be in a great position to do that at Tennessee State."

She got her bachelor's degree at Tennessee State University, where she will take over as president on January 2.

"I am truly honored and excited about returning to my alma mater, Tennessee State University, in this monumental leadership role," Glover said after the vote. "It is indeed a privilege to be selected as president of such a historic institution that has enriched the lives of so many students, and empowered thousands of families and communities, and still continues to do so today."

Glover has served at Jackson State University since 1994 and is a licensed attorney and certified public accountant. She has degrees from Clark Atlanta University, Georgetown University Law Center and George Washington University.

"This is an opportunity to lay the foundation for the next one hundred years of training talented students and making sure our students are prepared to compete in the global marketplace," Glover said.

Glover will replace interim president Portia Shields, who has led the historically black university during a reaccreditation process.
