MACON COUNTY, Tenn. – Schools in Macon and Stewart Counties will be closed the rest of the week due to illness.
On Wednesday, Macon County School officials said they would close Thursday and Friday because there are excessive amount of kids who have been absent from having the flu, strep throat, and stomach virus.
Tuesday, the director of Stewart County schools announced they would close through the end of the week due to illness as well.
Dr. Phillip Wallace said that community health officials recommended he cancel school after numerous reports of Flu type A and B as well as a stomach virus were reported within the school system. Classes were canceled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Parents were notified of the schools closure by a robotic call.
Both county school systems will reopen Monday, December 3.
