FRANKLIN, Tenn.- A Franklin man accused of vehicular homicide while driving impaired remains behind bars.
46-year-old Gregory Powers waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Tuesday. Franklin Police said that a 45-year-old Thomas Schlapman from Lynchburg, Virginia, was killed when Powers crossed over the center line and hit Schlapman head-on.
Tuesday's court appearance was in reference a DUI and vehicular assault charge dating back to July. Powers was out on bond when the crash that killed Schlapman occurred.
Police also believed that Powers was impaired while driving in both crashes and were awaiting test results. A judge sent the July case to the grand jury and set a December date to hear the new charges.
