NASHVILLE, Tenn.- One local girl is going above and beyond this holiday season, collecting more than 14,000 cards for the American Red Cross' "Holiday Mail for Heroes Program."
Eleven year old Janesa Wine from Dickson County started collecting cards in January of this year in hopes of sending soldiers overseas a heartfelt message from home during the holidays. Janesa started taking part in this program back in 2010 after she was inspired by Amy Grant's public service announcement on the project.
"I'm just glad to know that 14,053 people will get a taste of home this holiday season," said Wine.
As a surprise, Grant gave her a personal thank you.
Card donations can still be made to the American Red Cross' Holiday Mail for Heroes program.
