NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Military families who've lost a loved one in the line of duty got a special treat at the airport Friday.

The Snowball Express left Nashville and headed to Dallas- Fort Worth early Friday morning. Snowball Express is a non-profit organization that teams up with American Airlines to provide an all-expense paid weekend trip for 1,700 spouses and children of fallen U.S. military heroes. This is the 7th year the group has been able to provide this journey for the families.

"Everything that they have been through for the past year has been memorial services, or funerals or something dealing with their father's death and with this, this is for the kids for them to make new memories and to enjoy being a kid," said Many Potts, a Snowball Parent.

Organizers say it's their way of showing the families appreciation for their sacrifice.

More than 1700 families boarded the Snowball Express throughout the country and overseas.
