National Weather Service: Snowy Winter Ahead

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The National Weather Service in Nashville released their long range forecast on Friday, saying that based on recent trends they expect Middle Tennessee to have a colder, snowier winter than last year.

"Once you get out beyond seven to ten days you're really looking much more at trends than anything, you don't look at specific but trends," explains NewsChannel 5 Meteorologist Charlie Neese.

The NWS predicts Tennessee will have more precipitation for the 2012-2013 winter season but whether that means more snow, will depend entirely on if cold air from Canada and Alaska decides to make its way south.

"Based on the weather pattern and what we're seeing it's gonna be pretty average as far as temperatures go with precipitations levels expected to be a little above normal," said Neese.
