Senator Bob Corker (R) Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Time is
running out for lawmakers to pull Tennessee back from the fiscal cliff. For
weeks, lawmakers have been meeting behind closed doors and over the phone, but
one Tennessee lawmaker now suggests more needs to be done.
"I think really the
discussions around the fiscal cliff haven't even begun to be serious yet, and
the reason they haven't is that we really have not begun to talk about real
entitlement reforms; and the only way you are going to have a true avoidance, where
you have a solution, is to mix an appropriate amount of revenues with true
entitlement reform," said Senator Bob Corker (R) Tennessee. "Until the
debate moves to that point, there is really no serious debate taking place."
Senator Corker did say he
believes those serious talks will come this week. A recent proposal by Treasury
Secretary Timothy Geithner has received negative response from Republicans
suggesting each side is nowhere near a solution. If they don't reach a deal
soon, Tennesseans will be welcoming in the New Year with tax increases and deep
spending cuts.
