Pilot, 82, Found Dead In Wreckage Of His Plane

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities have found the body of an 82-year-old pilot in the wreckage of his single-engine plane in Hamilton County.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported a Civil Air Patrol flight spotted Clarence Andrews' plane upside down in the woods in Collegedale late Tuesday morning. Rescuers were directed to the scene and found Andrews' body still strapped into the cockpit.

The search began shortly before 1 a.m. when Andrews' daughter called the 911 dispatch center, saying the Collegedale Airport director called her and said her father's car, dog and cellphone were still at the airport, but her father had not returned from a flight.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
