Friday night's Rudolph Red Nose 5K Run, Tree Lighting Ceremony and Christmas Parade, all downtown, will bring about certain road closures that will impact afternoon rush hour and persons coming in for the festivities. Citizens are urged to take the closures into account when making Friday evening plans.

The run starts at 6 p.m. from the LP Field area, The Tree Lighting Ceremony is at 6:30 p.m. in Public Square Park (in front of the Historic Courthouse), and the parade begins at 7 p.m.

The following road closures will be in effect:

  • Westbound Woodland Street from Interstate Drive to 3rd Avenue North will close at 4 p.m.
  • North 1st Street from Woodland Street to Jefferson Street will close at 4 p.m.
  • Main Street, Russell Street, South 1st Street and South 2nd Street around LP Field will close at 4 p.m.
  • Eastbound Woodland Street from Interstate Drive to 3rd Avenue North will close at 5:30 p.m.
  • 2nd Avenue North will close at 5:45 p.m.
  • Broadway between 1st and 8th Avenues will close at 5:45 p.m.
  • Broadway between 9th and 13th Avenues will close at 6:45 p.m.
  • Commerce Street between 8th and 10th Avenues will close at 6:45 p.m.
  • 9th Avenue South between Demonbreun Street and Broadway will close at 6:45 p.m.
  • The Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge will close at 6:15 p.m. for the fireworks display. The bridge, which is in the fallout zone for the fireworks, will reopen immediately after the display has concluded.

 

The run starts on Victory Avenue at South 2nd Street and will come into downtown before ending back at Victory Lane.

The parade will stage across the Woodland Street Bridge to LP Field and will begin its route at 1st Avenue North & Union Street. It will travel up Broadway to 10th Avenue, where it will disperse.
