Preparations Underway For Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Preparations are underway downtown for Music City's annual Christmas parade and tree lighting will get underway. The city is celebrating its 60th year of the event.

The theme of this year's parade is "A Christmas Salute," and it pays tribute to the military and everyone who serves their friends and neighbors for the greater good of our community.

Before the parade, there will be a 5K Rudolph Red Nose run, where more than 2,000 runners and walkers will make their way to the festivities at Public Square.

The run starts at 6 p.m. near LP Field. The Tree Lighting Ceremony is at 6:30 p.m. in Public Square Park in front of the Historic Courthouse, and the parade begins at 7 p.m.

The route begins at 1st Avenue North & Union Street. It will travel up Broadway to 10th Avenue, where it will disperse.

There will be some road closures to keep in mind. Beginning at 4 p.m., 2nd Ave. northbound to Union Street and the Woodland Street Bridge westbound to Interstate Drive will be closed.

At 5:30 p.m., Broadway closed from 2nd Avenue through 7th Avenue. Traffic will be allowed to cross north and southbound across Broadway. Woodland Street Bridge will be closed.

Beginning at 6 p.m., no traffic will be allowed to cross Broadway. By 6:45 p.m., Broadway will be closed from Second Avenue to 13th Avenue.
