NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Meanwhile
a group in Nashville rallied on the steps of the Capitol asking President Obama
for help.
"We're rallying for
the president to sign an executive order barring discrimination among federal
contractors, discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity
because the state nullified our Metro Nashville ordinance that passed in 2011
that did the same thing. So we have no recourse at the state level. We're
applying to the president to sign this executive order," said Chris
Sanders of the TN Equality Project.
Those involved also say they
hope Sunday's rally will grab local lawmakers' attention as they prepare for a
new session. Similar rallies also took place in Memphis and Cookeville.
