NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police have identified the man who was shot and killed outside an apartment complex in east Nashville on Sunday night.

Police said 59-year-old Ambrose James Jr., also known as "James Ambrose," was found lying on the ground outside his Lenore Street apartment around 7:20 p.m. Ambrose, who police said was known to sit outside his apartment and reportedly loan people in the community, was shot in the head and died at the scene.

A witness reported seeing three young black men, who appeared to be in their teens or early 20s, running from the scene.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined.
