17-Year-Old Charged In Bathroom Explosion At Antioch High
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 17-year-old student at Antioch High school has been charged after allegedly admitting to setting off an explosion in the bathroom as a prank.
Metro Police said the 11th grader was charged in Juvenile Court with possession of a prohibited weapon.
Police said the student confessed to putting reactive chemicals into a plastic water bottle and placing it in the restroom. The bottle exploded around 9 a.m. Monday, prompting the school to be placed on lockdown for approximately two hours during an investigation.
No one was hurt, and no damage was reported.
The school also sent out a message to all parents letting them know exactly what happened at the school.
"I don't know if the kid either mishandled it or he pushed something he wasn't suppose to, but he didn't bring it just to blow up the bathroom," said one parent.
The investigation by the police department's Hazardous Devices Unit and Hermitage Precinct-based School Resource Officers assigned to Antioch High School led to the identification of the teenager as a possible suspect.
