The Last Minute Toy Store will be December 19-22, 2012 at Sixty-First Avenue United Methodist Church, 6018 New York Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209.
Each year for the past eighteen years, The Last Minute Toy Store, a ministry of Sixty-First Avenue United Methodist Church of Nashville, Tennessee has distributed free toys and other gifts to thousands of low-income children and youth who live in Davidson County. Working in cooperation with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's "Toys for Tots" program and other local toy providers, the "Last Minute" Toy Store is for low-income families who did not pre-register with those other providers earlier in the fall.
In December of 2011, the Last Minute Toy Store served 4,674 children and youth from over 1,400 families – distributing over 20,000 toys/gifts to go along with books, oranges, and candy canes given to each child.
How It Works:
A limited number of free tickets (usually 350-375 per day) are given out on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 6:30 a.m. each day of the Toy Store – Wednesday, December 19 through Saturday, December 22 – at Sixty-First Avenue United Methodist Church, 6018 New York Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209. The line for tickets forms early (people begin arriving several hours in advance) and can be quite long. Persons needing help should dress warmly and not bring children if at all possible (however, never leave children unattended at home). Usually the line is not quite so long on the last two days, so parents in need of assistance who can't come in the middle of the night might want to try one of those two days. After receiving a ticket, the ticket holder will be told what time to come back that afternoon to select toys for each eligible child. Parents or legal guardians will be admitted once during the four-day period to shop for free toys for children and teens ages 0-18.
No pre-registration is necessary, but the parent or guardian must bring:
Picture I. D. for parent or guardian
Proof of Davidson County residence
Parent's or guardian's Social Security card or something official with social security number on it (we will register just the last four numbers on Social Security card).
Social Security cards of children (or something official with SS #)
ID for children showing their names and ages
Proof of Income: (please bring all that apply on official letterhead: pay stub; government assistance letter; seperation from work notice; child support letter; other proof of need)
Out of fairness to all in need, only those families in Davidson County who have NOT already received toys through other Toy Programs will be eligible for assistance.
