NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A decommissioned Metro Police officer has resigned from the department after several domestic assault charges.
Officials said that Decommissioned Officer Andre Johnson resigned from the police department last Friday, to avoid a disciplinary hearing that was scheduled for Tuesday.
Johnson had previously been charged in October after his wife accused him of kicking and punching her during an argument on April 25. Johnson was arrested on the first domestic assault charge on October 10. His wife reported the night before that he had struck her during an argument in February.
Police said Johnson was relieved of all law enforcement authority shortly after the October incident was reported. In a letter sent to the Metro Police Human Resources Department on Friday, Johnson wrote that he "will be retiring from all active duty."
