SMYRNA, Tenn.- Nissan North American announced the opening of its lithium-ion automotive battery plant in Smyrna.
The opening of the plant will bring an additional 1,000 new jobs to the Smyrna area. The lithium-ion battery will be produced as part of the all-electric 2013 Nissan LEAF.
"The opening of this facility in Tennessee supports our goal of making zero-emissions mobility a reality through American jobs and American manufacturing." said Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive officer of Nissan Motor Co.
The LEAF will be manufactured on the same line as Altima and Maxima in Smyrna. The plant in Smyrna is now the largest lithium-ion automotive battery plant in the US.
