COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - His surprise gift for a friend came one day after her death, but before he could receive it, and bury her in it a crook stole it.
John Breeding said while sitting in his Cookeville home, he saw a friend accept a package from the postman. Instead of bringing the gift in the house the so-called friend took the package left in his truck. Inside the package was a diamond watch and ring.
When Breeding walked outside the postman noticed something was wrong. He asked Breeding if he had received the package and upon learning it had been taken, called the police.
The gift was for a long-time friend who would never know what Breeding was planning for her because she died of a terminal illness one day before the package was delivered.
Police said if you are ever worried about expensive gifts delivered to your home have them held at the post office until you can pick them up.
