FRANKLIN, Tenn.- Franklin city leaders approved funding this week to improve a section of Hillsboro Road near historic downtown.
In February construction will start on a mile and a half stretch of road between Five Points and the Independence Square shopping center. Much of this area was damaged during the flood back in 2010.
The plans call for a completely new infrastructure from water and sewer lines replaced to putting utilities underground. Trees, sidewalks and bike lanes will be added as part of the city's streetscape program to improve the area's look. The budget for Phase one is $12.1 million.
The entire process will take an estimated 15 months and will slow down traffic on the already busy Hillsboro Road.
