MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A student pilot was injured after his single-engine plane crashed at the Murfreesboro airport on Thursday morning.
Officials said that 49-year-old Randall Ray was piloting a Cessna 172P when he lost control, and ran off the runway and hit a hangar around 8 a.m. at the airport on Memorial Boulevard. It is unclear at this time what caused the crash or whether it occurred during takeoff or landing.

Ray was trapped for approximately 20 minutes, but was awake and talking when emergency crews got on the scene. He was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Ray suffered minor lacerations and a possible broken leg.
Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue officials said that it was unclear if anyone witnessed the crash, and it was unclear who owns the plane.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration were on scene to conduct a routine investigation.
The airport was temporarily shut down while the crash was investigated and the runway inspected.
Records show the plane was registered in Connecticut to Skylark Flight Training LLC.
The Murfreesboro Airport is one of the only General Aviation Airports in the state of Tennessee that is self- supporting. One of their largest tenants is the Aerospace Department of Middle Tennessee State University.
