MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. – A Maury County Sheriff's Deputy has been charged with solicitation of a minor after a sting operation by Dickson County Sheriff's Department.

Jackie Wayne Sands, 38, was arrested on the job Wednesday. He was accused of soliciting a minor over the Internet for sex. The charge is a Class E Felony. Detectives said Sands sent e-mails trying to arrange a sexual encounter with an underage girl.

He was immediately fired from his job at the Maury County Sheriff's Department.

Sands, who lives in Giles County, was released from the Dickson County jail Thursday night on bond.

He previously worked for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department and Lewisburg Police.
