Brentwood Family Honors Late Daughter With Donations
by Emily Luxen
NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A Brentwood family is doing their part to bring some holiday cheer to children hospitalized over Christmas.
Next week Rick and Kelly Kimsey will be dropping off around 1,000 toys at Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
The project started 3 years ago after their daughter, Lilly Kay passed away at Vanderbilt at just 5 days old. Rick and Kelly Kimsey decided the following year they would honor their daughter by helping others.
"It's still tough," said Kelly Kimsey. "You never get over losing a child. This helps me to keep her memory alive."
The project started small, but grew quickly due to the help of family and friends. Now a spare bedroom in their home is filled with books, toys and games for sick kids.
"It's very overwhelming the support we've got," said Kimsey. "I'm just so grateful for my friends, my family, my neighbors. Everybody has been wonderful."
This year they are proud to donate more toys than ever before. They hope the annual tradition will continue to grow each year.
"It's just the best feeling giving back to children who are in desperate need of a little cheer," said Kimsey.
The Kimseys will deliver all the toys to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital Monday. They will continue to take donations throughout the weekend.
