WKU Student Dies After Jumping From Dorm Window

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Officials at Western Kentucky University said a student who jumped from the sixth-floor window of a residence hall has died.

WKU officials told WBKO-TV that 19-year-old Benjamin Gogins of Cook County, Ill., died Tuesday in at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Campus officials said the freshman jumped from the window at Pearce Ford Tower early Saturday morning. Emergency crews found him still breathing and he was flown to Vanderbilt.

Campus police are investigating, but have found no evidence that alcohol or drugs were involved.

WKU said the dorm has quarter-inch thick-tempered glass windows and a safety mechanism that only allows them to open 3 inches; however, police say the glass was broken in the window that the student jumped from.
