NASHVILLE, Tenn.- On Wednesday officials broke ground on a new fire station at 18th Avenue North.
The old fire station at this location was demolished in November. The new facility, a 15,000 square foot building, has a $4.1 million price tag.The staff and equipment have been temporarily assigned to other locations while the new building is under construction.
Mayor Karl Dean said the plan is to build new fire stations all over the city. He went on to say that the new facility will put highly trained firefighters in the areas they serve which was welcomed news for folks living in the neighborhood.
Station 11 has an important history in Nashville as the city's first All African-American firefighting company.
The building was estimated to be finished in 2013.
