15 Indicted On Mail Theft At FedEx Sorting Hub

Posted: Updated:

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A federal grand jury in Memphis has indicted 15 former FedEx workers, charging them with stealing from U.S. mail.

The theft of mail and obstruction of correspondence charges stem from cash, gift cards and drugs being stolen from U.S. Postal Service mail moving through the Memphis FedEx sorting hub.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said gift cards from Walmart and Target were filched from letters, cash was stolen from greeting cards and -- in one case -- more than $2,000 in cash was taken from a package.

FedEx spokesman Shea Leordeanu told The Commercial Appeal the company has a zero tolerance policy on crime and none of the people indicted still work there.

The thefts occurred between November 2010 and January 2011.
