SMYRNA, Tenn. - In the crowds of the Smyrna bowling alley on Tuesday mornings, you'll find Bea and Ted Cromer religiously working toward a perfect score even after seven decades of marriage.

"We used to do it for high scores. Then we did it for fun. Now we just do it for exercise," says Ted Cromer who is nearing his 87th birthday.

On a recent Tuesday, the Murfreesboro couple showed up to bowl just like they have for the past decade. This time though, it was a celebration of the decades they have spent together as a couple.

"We've lived a blessed life," says Bea.

Seventy years ago Bea asked Ted to "spare me" a life of loneliness. At the ages of 16 and 17, the two were married right around the time of World War II.

They realize they are a rarity, spending 70 years of their lives with the same person. To that, Bea has some advice for younger couples.

"You have to listen, don't bring each other down. You have to support one another," she says.

The Cromers' family is throwing them a huge 70th anniversary party on Christmas Eve. The youthful couple says they fully intend on making it to their 80th anniversary celebration, as well.
