OLD HICKORY, Tenn. - Vandals have spray painted hate-filled graffiti on several buildings and vehicles in the Old Hickory area over the last two weeks.

"What it says is disturbing to me, what it says," said victim Angela Haynie.

She woke Friday morning to find racist and anti-semetic slurs spray painted on the back of her garage.

"I was mad. I have lived in this house for 23 years, I've lived in this neighborhood for 47 years. I have never had to deal with something like this," Haynie said.

The vandals hit 13 times overnight December 15 and again three more times overnight December 21.

"I was annoyed that it was there, it was kind of shocking to see it," said Brandon Jackson.

The vandals spray-painted his fence overnight Friday. He considered the vandalism a hate crime.

"If they don't realize what they're doing, they need to because that's not fooling around, that could cause serious upset to the neighborhood," Jackson said.

In addition to the damage to personal property, officers have discovered graffiti on DuPont Elementary School.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department have increased patrols in the area.
