NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A man who had stolen food and other items from several local stores led police on a high speed chase down Murfreesboro Road Monday afternoon.

Police said 49-year-old Isaac McGuire from Smyrna was in the parking lot of a store in LaVergne where witnesses said he was opening cars in parking lot. When police arrived at the store to confront McGuire, he jumped into his car and fled the scene.

LaVergne Police officers pursued McGuire at speeds over 100mph down Murfreesboro Road. Officials said McGuire's wife was with him in the car during the chase and she repeatedly asked him to stop. According to police, at one point during the pursuit McGuire's wife attempted to jump out of the car, but was unable to get the door open.

As the chase reached Hamilton Church Road, McGuire lost control of the car and spun off the roadway into the trees. Police said McGuire's car launched 30 to 40 feet in the air when he lost control. Neither McGuire nor his wife were injured in the crash, but their car was totaled.

McGuire was arrested and charged with felony evading, resisting arrest, shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said he had outstanding warrants and Monday's events were his 11th offense for driving on a revoked license.

McGuire's wife was not charged in the incident.

When police searched McGuire's car they found multiple stolen items such as steaks, roast beef, bacon, shrimp, purses, and jackets, all of which were believed to have been taken from two area Walmart stores and a local Food Lion.
