NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A mentally ill West Nashville woman is in a psychiatric hospital after a fire at her home on Deal Avenue that firefighters say she started.
The Nashville Fire Department said the woman began threatening firefighters responding to the call once they arrived. Witnesses said the woman was holding an umbrella and cane, and fire officials say she was holding a lighter and spray container at one point.
The fire destroyed the home and that woman was eventually subdued. No one was injured. Police and firefighters had to surround the woman to finally get her under control.
"All four of them eventually kept getting closer and one got behind her and grabbed her and she was fighting back the whole time, even into the ambulance," said Briana Boswell, who saw the fire and altercation with the woman.
A neighbor will be taking care of a pet dog that was living in the home. That dog was not hurt.
