MTSU Student Killed In Weather-Related Crash

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A Middle Tennessee State University student was killed in West Tennessee Wednesday when her vehicle ran off an icy road.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol told The Daily News Journal that 19-year old Taylor Stahlman was driving in West Tennessee when her vehicle hit a patch of ice and careened into a 30-foot ditch. The crash happened just before noon on Wednesday on Lexie Cobb Highway in Dyer County.

Police said that speed was not a factor in the crash, but Stahlman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of wreck. Investigators said it would have made a significant difference in her injuries. No other cars were involved in the crash.

Middle Tennessee State University officials said Stahlman was a mass communications student at the university and was also involved in the AOPi sorority.

A member of her sorority said that sisters nationwide will wear black ribbons in her honor.
