NASHVILLE, Tenn.- One local state senator plans to introduce legislation to toughen up requirements for the HOPE Scholarship program.
State Senator Jim Summerville has already submitted a bill he called the "Know Your Nation Act." It would require students to pass the English and civics tests given by the US citizenship and immigration service's naturalization tests. If the bill passes the new requirement would go into effect for anyone applying for a HOPE scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year.
