CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Lori Kunesh is the kind of person who loves her dogs. That's why when she let them out before jumping in the shower Thursday morning she never expected to hear frantic yelping.

"He was barking like crazy. Barking, barking, barking," she said Saturday.

Kunesh threw on a robe and ran to the back door to find two strangers trying to take everything.

"They were in hooded jackets, and they each had one of our dogs under their arm. They had a dog under each arm and then they were dragging some of the things that we have in the backyard, like a barbecue grill, wheelbarrow and different things," she said.

That's when she started yelling. The pair dropped everything, but the dogs and ran out her back gate.

They eventually ditched 14-year-old "Buddy", a Bichon Frisé, and 12-year-old "Arthur", a Maltese, in a briar patch. Arthur eventually came back covered in briers and helped her find "Buddy", who is blind, bleeding and hiding in a neighbor's yard.

"He was crying and barking because he was hurting," Kunesh said. "I didn't know if they might have had a knife and cut him. I couldn't tell. I was just crying."

While it was traumatic, it wasn't the first time. Kunesh says both dogs have been stolen and returned before from other homes she's owned in the Clarksville area.

She just hopes these expensive breeds don't tempt someone to do it again.

"The price on them, somebody else would look at that. To me, these are my little children. They live with me, and I've had them for like 12 and 14 years," she said.

Clarksville Police haven't made any arrests.
