Man Critically-Injured In ATM-Related Robbery

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was critically injured in an ATM-related robbery overnight. Police continue to search for the suspect.

Officials said 54-year-old William jones withdrew some money around 12:30 a.m. Sunday from an ATM on 21st Avenue and Jefferson Street near D.B. Todd Boulevard. He was walking about a block away when someone shot him.

The victim was shot in the leg and through the back. The bullet exited near the man's chest. He was transported by ground to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said it was unclear if the suspect has been staking out at the ATM and waiting for a victim, or just saw him walking away and attacked him. They were reviewing surveillance video to determine if the shooting had anything to do with the ATM withdrawl.

The man's identity was not released.

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME (615-742-7463).
